My short experience with Missing Pieces was not what I had hoped to expect. I will first say that Marlee seems to be a good caring person who tries her best to take care of all children that comes in her reach. However, I am very very disappointed on the lack of therapist support that she has under her stewardship. I’m more disappointed because I did explain to her the past experiences I had with other therapists out of state prior to me and my family moving to Jacksonville (which wasn’t pleasant, as they did not fulfill their promises). In our first meeting with Marlee my wife expressed to her the importance of having a therapist at the house to do training with our son; mainly because we do also have a new born daughter and it would give us insight on how ABA therapy is done. Per Marlee, that was something that she agreed to do until the new center opened up in which we were promised an invite for open house and we never received it. It seemed like opening the new center was a way of escaping from actually having a therapist to come over to our house. On the morning of David’s second visit at the center, I told Marlee that I wanted to discuss David’s plan going forward with services after I pick him up on Friday. Friday afternoon comes to pick David up and I discover that Marlee is gone for the day. Four weeks has elapsed and I finally hear from Marlee in an email stating that she unable to find a therapist for my son. Again, I truly believe Marlee means well, but based on my encounters with her, she has no business running her own clinic and needs more experience underneath another clinic with someone supervising her and the other therapist that are working alongside of her. As a military family, we do not have time to be waiting on “what ifs or maybe’s.” It’s either “can you support us now or not.” All we’re looking for is honesty. It seems that most ABA clinics nowadays, do not properly have enough manning to support enough children and they know it, therefore parents are being stuck with lies about how they can support, when in actuality they can’t and all the clinics are concentrating on is making money off of the insurance companies.
