When my daughter was diagnosed with autism, I had no idea what to do to help her. Finding Light house was literally a Godsend. The people there loved her and worked with her patiently. She loved them and went from non-verbal to can know talk most of the time. Although she misses this place, they will always have a special place in our hearts.

I am a parent who’s entered hard times caring for my disabled child. Many time society doesn’t acknowledge or address how lack of support forces many parents to become homeless or unknowing leave our ASD and cognitively unaware children in harms way to provide for them. I was referred to Lighthouse only knowing they were an Autism entity in my city. I got to the building about 3:20pm, Understandably the doors were locked being children shows up in most of the online visuals. I was immediately met with resistance at the door with the tone of a “Whites only establish” being informed that since they closed at 4 she wasn’t interested in me breaching their organization to obtain information. My Autistic son tried to go through the door since it is 95• out and she aggressively stopped him like he was trying to breach the linebacker downs yard After explaining she would get me a card looking me up and do down like how dare I knock on this door She proceeded to bring me 5 to 6 business cards back, saying “I got you a few” and I explained to her ma’am, I only need one, and it immediately upset her. After going to my car to leave, she proceeded to stare me down in the parking lot like I was a criminal that came to steal autism services. Once I notice they were aggressively watching me. I motioned with my mouth Was something you needed? They continued to look at me and laugh in my face; two ladies at reception one that with glasses who opened the door and another short lady with dark hair. I proceeded to walk to the door to ask was there a problem and ring the buzzer the lady with the glasses gets on an intercom like she was calling security on me… A Director came out. I felt like this was the most disrespectful, awkward engagement that anyone could have when you expect the support of your community, our artistic children to fund your business… I personally have never felt so disrespected in my life for just trying to get information about services; to be watched and stared at, as I attempt to leave the parking lot is just inhumane and speaks to a loud culture of me being in a place where someone felt I did not belong…. Explain to me: Why would I use your service or feel anyone would be supported and adequately serviced?

My 3yo son has been going here about a year and we've seen a dramatic improvement in his communication skills and eye contact. This is play-based therapy so he enjoys going to school every day. They even taught him to pick up his toys@

If you are looking for a professional helping place, this is not it. Not inclusive for all the spectrum. Waste of time, so please do not sit on the waitlist for 2 years expecting to receive help or guidance. They see fit to service only who they choose to service. It’s like going to the doctor and saying that you have a cough. But if you don’t cough in the office, you’re not believed. We didn’t see a cough when you came in for 1 hour? My son cannot have behaviors by command in an hour appointment. Really defeating experience.
