We cannot say enough wonderful things about Shayna. She has been absolutely incredible in helping our son overcome his speech delays. When you’re told your child is developmentally delayed, it can feel overwhelming and scary as a parent—but Shayna met us every step of the way with genuine care, patience, understanding, and empathy. Today, our son is a little parrot—repeating everything, speaking in three- to four-word combinations, and thriving at just two years old. Shayna has been the brightest light during a difficult time for our family. Our little guy did not make any progress with several EI therapists. He was delayed and we had no idea what he was saying. Shayna approached our son with confidence and enthusiasm. It didn't take long for him to respond in kind and he loved going to see her. The progress in his speech has been incredible and he is now able to express himself very well. He is thriving in a Montessori program with children of varied ages. Shayna is focused on progress and doesn't hold on to a child who is ready to graduate. She is able to engage kids and build their confidence so they want to speak. I learned so much from her and was able to support my son at home. I still hear myself repeating her joyous cheer when my son says a new word or strings together a complex sentence. Shayna is a gem and worth every penny!

Five is not enough stars to truly convey how amazing Shayna is! Our son first began seeing Shayna just after his second birthday. He had been slow to begin saying any words at all and could mostly just produce vowel sounds, despite being of an age where we were expecting at least a limited vocabulary; certainly words such as 'mama' or 'dada'. My wife and I could see the frustration on his face as he struggled to communicate with us despite knowing what it was that he wanted to say. He had been working with a speech therapist for about six months before Shayna but without any progress. However, it was this therapist that recognized that despite it not being her area of expertise, our son may have childhood apraxia of speech. Enter Shayna! After an initial evaluation and a few weeks of treatment with Shayna, she confirmed the diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech and began treating our son accordingly. Initially we brought him to Shayna twice/week for half hour sessions, then three times, and eventually four times/week as we saw the incredible results. By the time our son turned three his expressive language skills, once measured in the ninth percentile, were now considered at or above the expected level for his age. We continued to see Shayna four times per week for another year as she and our son continued to build and build on the work they were doing. Shayna's approach with our son was absolutely perfect and tailor made for his needs. In addition to his difficulties with speech he is just a high energy kid who isn't always able to sit still and focus on a task. Shayna found so many different and imaginative ways to make speech therapy fun and engaging for him. The work they did was not always easy for him, but Shayna guided him through his therapy skill and kindness. Last week our son started Kindergarten. One of the the goals I set with Shayna back when we started working together three years ago was that I wanted my son to start school and be able to speak and interact with his teachers and peers just as any other child would. Not only is he doing that, but he is exceeding all expectations! His teachers report an extensive vocabulary and grasp of grammar and sentence structure concepts far exceeding what would be expected of him at this age. I truly, truly cannot recommend Shayna and Boulder Speech Therapy enough if your child is struggling to speak and communicate; we owe so much to her tireless work with our son and he has come so very far because of her.

Shayna is a truly gifted therapist. My two sons, both with a severe speech disorder, have been under the care of Boulder Speech Therapy since they were two and three years old. Now, at 6 and 8 years old they both just graduated! Prior to finding Shayna, the SLPs we'd worked with expressed doubt that my older son would ever be fully intelligible and indicated he would likely need speech therapy well into his teens. I suspected these other providers were missing something about my sons' particular pathology, but it wasn't until I found Shayna that anything made sense. Shayna was able to completely demystify the situation and accurately identified my sons' motor planning issues. Because of the severity of their condition, we had a lot of work ahead of us, but I can't begin to imagine where we would be now were it not for Shayna's expertise, dedication, and personal investment in the well-being of my children. While Shayna is far and away the most knowledgeable and skillful therapist we’ve worked with, she is, moreover, unmatched in her ability to see and appreciate your child for the person they are. Shayna built such a trusting therapeutic relationship with my children that were able to show up week after and week, be completely vulnerable, and work hard at the demanding tasks asked of them. She always held space for them on their difficult days and challenged them on their good ones. This past year my boys transitioned to work with Liz and I couldn’t have been more impressed by her. While Liz too is a true expert with countless therapeutic tools at her disposal (again, we’ve worked with 10+ other therapists over the years through Children’s Hospital, early intervention, BVSD preschool SLPs, CU CLC SLPs, elementary school SLPs, and other private providers before finding BST), what truly shocked me was when my boys began fighting over who got to go first when they began working with her. Minecraft, Pokemon, Bakugan, Power Rangers, geology, chemistry, sports… there was no niche interest my boys had that Liz couldn’t school them on (and I’m certain they only scraped the surface of her knowledge – she’s so interesting and intelligent that I wanted to pick her brain too). Liz’s ability to connect with my kids in this way proved to be a magical shortcut to a productive therapeutic relationship. The kind of trust and motivation she was able to instill in them in just one or two sessions would have taken any other therapist months to achieve. When we took our son to see Shayna, he was 2 years old and all he could say was "buh" to everything. In just 8 short months (1 hour per week), he now has age-appropriate speech. We are so grateful to have found Shayna; she completely changed his life trajectory for the better. She's knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly empathetic. We are so thankful for what she's done for our family.
