I cannot express my gratitude enough to Shawna seeing my child within days as a first time patient. We didn't have to wait weeks during a time when weeks were not an option. My child and myself were immediately comfortable with Shawna. She is very approachable and compassionate. I appreciate how she talks to the parents and the child, while maintaining strict confidentiality. One of the most important things about a therapist/doctor is feeling 'safe'. Knowing you are in an environment with a person who provides that is crucial. Shawna provides that. She is always available and is consistent in getting back to you within hours, not days. Shawna is a phenomenal clinician that has helped our family tremendously throughout our son’s time with her. She has helped him navigate social and emotional changes and gave him the tools he needs to communicate more effectively and to help self-regulate. She is communicative with her treatment plan and therapeutic approach and I never question that our child is in the most caring hands. Ms. Shawna and the Douglas County Child Therapy clinic is amazing. My three girls have been meeting with Ms. Shawna regularly for well over a year. My three girls who previously hated going to "therapy" to "talk about their feelings" are now overjoyed to go and often beg for additional time with Shawna. Over the course of our time with her and the Douglas County Child Therapy I have seen remarkable improvement with my children's social emotional health, coping mechanisms and overall well being. Ms. Shawna can move mountains with children and families in this area. She has an amazing way to listen and connect to youth. Shawna Bernath has worked with my child for a year and has helped our family a great deal. She is excellent at establishing a connection with kids. My child particularly enjoys getting to talk about Pokemon with Shawna. I would recommend her to families who need help with ADHD and behavioral issues with their kids.
