I walked out crying because someone finally gets it. My son actually has conversations now instead of repeating phrases. They understand his needs and how he understands things but cannot generalize abstract concepts that he already knows across various aspects of his life. He shakes in excitement every morning when he sees his technician coming to get him from the car. He doesn’t throw fits when you say no. He respects personal space and boundaries and we are actually able to see the person behind the syndrome. We only dreamt of this a month ago. They were so accommodating of me, my concerns, a very anxious grandma and of course, my son himself. I am such a better quality mom to all three now that my son is a lot more independent. I am able to make time for all of them now instead of just helicoptering one. He does things without asking- picking up toys, dressing up with clothes actually the right way most times. He also brings dirty dishes ti the sink! At this rate, I think I will be able to die peacefully. I think he’ll be alright without me when I die.
