Animal Care Center of Spearfish

Dr Whalen saved our dogs life! We are so grateful for him and his team! He began not feeling well on a Sunday so we went to the ER in rapid. We were pretty much told it is what it is. Maybe should go to Denver. We wanted an 2nd opinion by our vet and that’s just what we got! Monday morning they got us right in and Everyone there was amazing and went the extra mile for us and we will be forever grateful!! They really care for your animals and our dog is doing wonderful again!

I love this vet clinic! My cat had a very bad experience when he was a kitten with a different clinic in town and has since been afraid of and aggressive towards female veterinary staff. When I told them this at this clinic Dr. Olson and the techs did everything they could to make sure he felt safe with them and confident in his surroundings while also keeping themselves out of harms way. They are very gentle and patient with the animals in their care and I cannot recommend them enough!

I do not recommend Animal Care Center based on my recent experience. On my first visit, I explained to the veterinarian that my dog had experienced severe, random outbursts of pain the night before. I was very concerned and asked what could be causing it. While I was there, I chose to update his rabies vaccination. However, I left the appointment without any answers regarding the cause of his pain. The following day, his pain became even worse, so I brought him back immediately while he was actively having another episode. When I explained the situation to the front desk, I was told there were no notes in his chart about the pain I had discussed the day before — only documentation of the rabies shot. That was extremely concerning. During the second visit, the same vet examined him, but no bloodwork was performed and there was no thorough physical exam to determine the source of his pain beyond taking his temperature. I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously, and neither my dog nor I felt comforted during the visit. We were sent home with pain medication and told that an X-ray could be done the next day after the medication kicked in, and that if nothing was found, I would need to take him somewhere “higher.” I left feeling more worried and frustrated than when I arrived, with no clear answers. The next day, I took my dog to another veterinarian in Spearfish. Within the first five minutes of examining him, she identified the source of his pain. X-rays were done immediately, and we began a treatment plan that included laser therapy for a pinched nerve in his back. The difference in thoroughness, communication, and compassion was night and day. After two visits at Animal Care Center without answers, proper documentation, or a thorough exam, I felt my time and money were wasted. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this clinic based on my experience.

We have been going to Dr. Whales for as long as he has been in Spearfish. The Animal Care Center team is knowledgeable amd delivers a good experience. They truly care about your pets. Years ago, we had to put a dog down and they sent us a lovely sympathy card. We highly recommend the Animal Care Center.

From the moment you walk in, it’s immediately clear how clean and thoughtfully designed the space is, with the comfort of animals and their families in mind. There’s a large, well-maintained aquarium and a stunning floor-to-ceiling bird enclosure in a side room, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Another really cool feature is they have cameras throughout the office and in the back where they work on your animals and In each room there’s a TV where you can view what’s going on with your baby while it’s happening in real time which definitely eases your worries. You’re greeted with smiling faces and genuine kindness, which is such a breath of fresh air. Everyone there is incredibly nice, and you can truly tell they’re passionate about caring for animals. We will definitely be going back.

The Staff here are absolutely wonderful. They definitely give the vibe that they care for your dear animals as much as you do. Got us in for an appointment-same day for our baby that was having some difficulty breathing, and they were very quick and professional. We will be taking our fur babies here for any future needs :)

Greetings. Please take this review for whatever it is still worth, but it substantiates to record the service I am grateful for between 2021-2022. Sincerely. There were many odysseys I had to mourn and grieve over, but is my gratitude to endorse this veterinary clinic as a firm that loves animals whom I am grateful for in the earnest and most sincere care of my felines Oliver Twist, Yeti, and Carmen. I cannot begin to explain how wonderful the staff and doctors are at the animal care clinic. They helped us through the most difficult decision that we’ve had to make in our lives. They were kind and detailed about what was going on with our baby. They even called to check in after his passing. I would recommend them to anybody.
