Arizona Child Psychology has been a lifesaver. From the first meeting, we felt seen, heard, and supported. Dr. Sia and Dr. Scott treated my daughter with compassion and kindness. We have seen a dramatic difference in her confidence, communication and self awareness. Dr. Sia and Dr. Scott took the time and care that everyone wants for their child. We are so grateful that we found Arizona Child Psychology.

It’s not easy choosing the right psychologist to do gifted testing for your child! One of the biggest challenges I had is that YELP and Google reviews can be misleading because parents of children who don’t test well will often become angry and “blast” the psychologist who did the testing instead of just accepting the results. After talking with parents in my local gifted community (Knox), it seemed that three names consistently came up as being the best and most utilized psychologists for these types of evaluations in the Phoenix area (The Nicholls Group, Beljan, and Arizona Child Psychology). After doing my research, I chose Dr. Sia Herrmann at Arizona Child Psychology because my child is shy, Dr. Sia offers a free “meet and greet” for anxious children, and I liked that her bio says she has years of experience working as a school psychologist in the schools (who better to do gifted testing, right?). When I took my child to meet Dr. Sia, she was warm and friendly, and immediately knew how to put my child at ease. She even took time to show my child a quick magic trick and take a turn on the real life slot machine in her office which was super fun and made my child want to come back. The actual testing went well, and my child ended up testing as gifted in 2 of the 3 areas needed for gifted enrollment at Knox, but we ended up moving before my child could enroll. However, what really made me want to leave this review for Dr. Sia is that she continued to help me and my child by helping us locate a child psychologist in California who could help my child learn to work through her anxiety. Dr. Sia went above and beyond, and I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Dr. Herrmann is absolutely amazing! I am so grateful for his professional insight, compassion, and kindness. He has been an invaluable support in helping guide and shape my son’s strong-willed, active personality in such a positive way. Truly a 10/10 experience with Dr. Herrmann!

In 2024, I paid $400 for a verbal gifted assessment for my daughter, who had already tested in the 99th percentile for nonverbal and quantitative gifted testing within the PVUSD school district. Because she is shy and reserved, I specifically sought out Sia Hermann because I read she was experienced in working with timid children. The assessment lasted approximately 20 minutes. Based on that session, I was told my daughter should seek further testing and services, might need a speech evaluation, and could struggle in a gifted classroom. This feedback was difficult to reconcile given the brief duration of the evaluation. I waited before posting this review to gain proper perspective. The following year, my daughter was retested by the school district at no cost and scored in the 99th percentile for verbal gifted abilities. She has since been placed in the Paradise Valley gifted program and is performing very well. I was also told that speech, reading, and writing were considered primary predictors of success, and that my daughter was perceived as lacking in those areas. Based on our later outcomes, this evaluation did not help me better understand or support my child’s strengths. One additional concern was a follow-up email offering to repeat the evaluation now that my daughter was “familiar and comfortable,” despite my daughter telling me she was not comfortable with the evaluation and this would have required additional payment. Overall, this experience was disappointing. I would encourage parents (especially those with shy or reserved children) to consider their testing options.

I absolutely love coming here! The office has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it a comfortable space from the moment you walk in. All the clinicians are not only incredibly kind but also highly experienced, which makes a huge difference in the quality of care. The waiting room is also a great spot to get work done, and I really appreciate how thoughtful and accommodating everyone is. Highly recommend!
