Zero stars. To say that my experience with Dell Children Developmental Pediatrics department was poor is an understatement. My son was never seen by a Pediatrician so I cannot speak to the provider team, but the patient service is probably the worst I've experienced. After submitting the initial intake packet which includes a list of age appropriate questions to be completed by the parent/caregiver, I was told (via email) there was approx 12 month wait, and to expect a call from a Nurse to go over forms. I waited patiently. By 13 months, I received zero communication. You cannot speak to anyone directly as calls are triaged and emailed to the department by a 3rd party. When asked why I could not speak to someone directly, I was told that there is only one person who does the scheduling, and calls would be overwhelming. Totally unacceptable answer! That is not the problem of the patient. If there are staffing issues, fix them! I spoke with triage TWICE before the office finally called me back (5 days after my initial call). I was told Dr. Tran reviewed my son's paperwork (a year later I guess) and she "conveniently" opened her schedule to new patients and just so happened to have a spot open within 2 days. Few things: 1). I am convinced that my son was totally overlooked while on the waitlist. This same person called me again a few days later saying she was going down the list and to schedule appointments. She then realized that my son had been just scheduled. Everything was rushed. No care. No empathy. Lack of professionalism. 2). Given that we'd waited over a year, the parent evaluation on file was no longer applicable. You would think you would be asked to submit an updated form with the age appropriate questions. This department is an absolute mess. There is clearly zero quality assurance. I proceeded with scheduling him for a more convenient time as a back up and decided to look elsewhere. Maybe I should have done this months ago. I found a Developmental Pediatrician in Houston to evaluate my son. I was able to get an appointment with her immediately. She was excellent. Him not being seen by Dell Children's was probably a blessing. I would strongly recommend parents consider other providers even if it means going outside of Austin.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience at this office due to their lack of flexibility and poor communication. My appointment was at 9:00 a.m., and I was well within their stated 15-minute grace period. I parked at 9:08 (which I have proof of) and made it inside at 9:12. However, I wasn’t informed that the provider had moved to a different part of the building. By the time I navigated the new location—while also managing a child who was overwhelmed by the unexpected change—I arrived at 9:16, just one minute past their grace period. Despite the circumstances, they refused to see us. Even after I asked them to check with the provider, I was told we had to reschedule. After driving nearly an hour and making every effort to be on time, being turned away over a single minute—especially when their own lack of communication caused the delay—was beyond frustrating. For a practice that specializes in developmental disabilities, I expected more understanding. Families should be aware of how rigid and unsympathetic their policies are. 2 stars instead of 1 because I like the doctor.

The doctors and social workers in Developmental Pediatrics are knowledgable, caring, and patient. I know they have my child's best interests at heart. My wife and I trust them completely.
