Nexus saved us! Our son was so well cared for during his stay at Nexus Houston, and the staff was incredible. 120/10 recommend.

Nexus promotes itself as a facility offering individualized care, daily therapy, life skills training, and compassionate behavioral support for children with complex needs. Their website paints a picture of a therapeutic environment built on trust, structure, and evidence-based interventions. But that is not the reality we experienced. My child was admitted to their New Directions program at the Dallas location. They have this program at their Houston location, as well. The services they advertise -- and are required to provide in order to bill Medicaid -- were either inconsistently delivered, poorly documented, or didn't happen at all. Despite being paid to provide intensive behavioral therapy and communication support, our child received little more than sedation and confinement. Basic life skills instruction and meaningful engagement were almost nonexistent. Requests for documentation, progress tracking, and behavioral data -- all of which parents are entitled to -- were routinely denied or deflected. Most importantly, I urge every parent to question everything about their use of mechanical and chemical restraints. Ask to see their written policies. Ask what laws and Medicaid regulations govern those interventions. Ask how they monitor, document, and review each incident. In our experience, those procedures were anything but transparent. Parental involvement was minimal, communication was inconsistent, and discharge planning was vague. The program lacked the structure and oversight that would justify the claims they make -- or the funding they receive. Please don't make the mistakes I made! Ask hard questions, request proof, and don't rely on surface-level reassurances. My child left Nexus worse off -- not better -- and families like ours deserve far better than what's being offered behind closed doors.

Our family will be forever grateful to Nexus Children’s Hospital. Our son got the best care and our family was able to rest during his stay. Anytime I needed an update on him, we were able to speak with someone right away. Our concerns were addressed quickly and family was able to visit. We wanted our son to have his medications adjusted in a safe environment and his behaviors monitored. All his needs were met. Nexus Children’s Hospital saved our family. Will’s team will hold a special place in our hearts.

I attended my nursing school clinical here and was truly impressed by the exceptional care provided to the patients. This facility is amazing. The staff are incredibly compassionate, treating the children as if they were their own. The quality of care these children receive here is unmatched and may not be available in their own homes. I highly recommend this place to any parent looking for a supportive and nurturing environment for their special child.

My daughter was in a motor vehicle accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury causing also seizures and a stroke. We came to Nexus Houston after to being in CCU 17 days and spent almost 4 months. From the time we arrived the staff was fantastic. They were able to take care of my baby girl and calm me down as well; the fear and worry associated with a complete change of lifestyle for her as well as pause in the trajectory of her life. After many sick days the therapists of speech, physical, and occupational therapy were there on site to help get Chandlar up and moving again as well as talking. It was quite the uphill battle but to see the determination and watching her learn her strength amass within herself as well as God was awe-inspiring. There are so many great staff within this tiny facility that cared for my daughter as if she were their own. Ms Olive and Mr Edgar as well as Rudy, Nenna, Krystal, and Karin. From the kitchen staff to the housekeepers watching and cheering Chan on as she walked the halls and gathered her voice again with the therapists. And all the therapists as well, even the students, touched our lives and hearts. I highly recommend Nexus Houston to anyone who’s life required the care and compassion needed to come back from a TBI and or stroke.
