Working with this ABA therapy center has been a truly great experience as a community member. My son was at Caravel for roughly 2 years and it was such an amazing experience us!Not only was Caravel helping my son grow but they support the whole family. Teaching us all ways to navigate life and understand what my son was going through and how to help him through the struggles. It is truly amazing seeing the growth in my son from day one to now and we wouldn’t be where we are now without Caravel. During his time at Caravel, my son made meaningful progress, and I appreciated that many staff genuinely cared about him. With guidance, we were able to make almost complete progress on haircuts, nail clipping, and teeth brushing — significant sensory challenges — and I am grateful for those successes. However, there were significant challenges. Mornings were extremely difficult: my son often cried, resisted, and refused to get out of the car. Promised transition plans to help him enter the clinic smoothly were never fully implemented, creating ongoing daily stress for our entire family. While Caravel offered home visits, the underlying problem — the difficulty transitioning to the clinic — was never fully addressed. Some staff interactions felt dismissive or lacking understanding. During a haircut, when my son was using a video as reinforcement, a staff member said, “Wow, now I understand why you say some of the things you do. I wonder how long he had to scroll to find a video like that.” Despite my repeated requests for guidance on reducing screen time without triggering outbursts, no practical support was offered. Comments like this left me feeling my concerns were misunderstood, even though I was trying to support my child. One morning, my son used a common gestalt phrase, “stop crying.” A BCBA responded, “I wonder where he heard that from,” which felt critical rather than supportive. I explained the phrase — which should have been familiar after 2.5 years — and offered a 500-page ebook by a speech-language pathologist, since no speech therapist was on site. She replied, “Yeah, because 500 pages is a light read…” This dismissive response highlighted a lack of continuity and understanding of my child’s needs, despite my efforts to provide helpful guidance. During a family guidance meeting, staff repeatedly asked about home life. When I asked why, the response was, “Well, we do analyze behavior.” To me, this made it feel as though my perspective as a parent wasn’t fully considered. Communication supports were another major gap. The team was not proactive about introducing an AAC device and seemed unfamiliar with gestalt language learning, leaving me to navigate options on my own. Clear guidance in these areas would have made a meaningful difference. Early in our time at Caravel, staff praised me as a strong advocate. Toward the end, when I pushed for support with mornings and giving my son space while upset, I was labeled “outspoken.” I was never rude, never criticized staff personally, and only escalated repeated issues — highlighting that persistent problems were not being addressed effectively. Ultimately, I made the decision to transition him out of Caravel entirely. I don’t know exactly what was bothering him about the clinic, but I’m glad I listened — and so is he. Since leaving, the difference has been remarkable. Not only are mornings calmer, but many daily routines and challenges now come to my son with ease — things I had previously attributed to sensory issues or possibly ODD. He goes smiling every morning, hasn’t asked about Caravel, and our family life has improved significantly. Even his sister is happier because our days now start gently. Leaving Caravel was the right choice for our family.

Our family had an absolutely amazing experience with Caravel over the past two years. The growth we saw in our son was beyond what we ever thought possible—he learned, gained confidence, and developed new skills that truly set him up for success. The staff at Caravel not only supported our son, but they also supported our entire family. They took the time to guide us, answer questions, and give us tools we could use at home. Their kindness, professionalism, and dedication made all the difference. We are so grateful for everything Caravel has done for our son and for us as parents.
