I was admitted to the dual diagnosis unit for detox and mental health stabilization, and this was by far one of the most distressing healthcare experiences I have ever had. This unit houses patients detoxing from substances alongside individuals struggling with suicidality. It is not designed to manage acute psychiatric patients requiring intensive supervision, yet those patients were routinely placed on the unit. This created an unsafe and volatile environment for everyone. Physical altercations were allowed to occur without appropriate intervention. Patients who were assaulted were not given meaningful opportunities to report the incidents or pursue action while hospitalized. Instead of removing aggressive individuals, staff left the rest of the unit feeling fearful for their safety. The overall environment was tense and unprofessional. Many staff members were dismissive and rude, contributing to an atmosphere of anxiety rather than recovery. Medication management was deeply concerning. Medications were administered without thorough evaluation of patient history, and there were no consistent mouth checks after administration, allowing patients to potentially divert or trade medications within the unit. Additionally, patients were prescribed medications upon request without adequate assessment of clinical need. There appeared to be little coordination of care — outside medical records were not properly reviewed, existing diagnoses were not carefully considered, and potential drug interactions were not adequately evaluated. I have a documented heart condition, and despite staff being aware of this, I was prescribed a medication that could have triggered a serious cardiac event. That level of oversight is alarming. The “therapeutic” component of the program was minimal. The on-site therapist did not provide meaningful counseling sessions and primarily interacted with patients for paperwork and discharge planning. There was little evidence of individualized treatment or active clinical engagement. Additionally, this hospital houses children on site. Adult patients are permitted to go outside for smoke breaks multiple times per day, and children are also taken outside. These outdoor times are not always adequately separated, despite policies indicating there should be no crossover between adult and pediatric patients. Adult patients frequently discard cigarette butts in areas where children later play. There were also instances of suspected contraband and medication trading between units during outdoor breaks, creating the potential risk of substances being dropped on the ground and accessed by a child. The lack of environmental control and supervision in a setting that includes minors is extremely concerning. A dual diagnosis unit — especially within a facility that treats children — should prioritize safety, structured care, and strict supervision. Instead, the environment felt chaotic, poorly monitored, and medically negligent. I strongly urge leadership and regulatory bodies to reevaluate safety protocols, medication practices, patient supervision standards, and cross-unit policies to protect both adult and pediatric patients.

Where do I even begin? My experience inside the hospital for mental health care was atrocious. My room had blood splats on every wall, the bed frames, you name it. My shower had someone else's soap and bandages when I got there. They were out of pillows? You can only see a Dr. Once in the morning if you don't get skipped, they don't let you take all your prescriptions for physical health, and good luck trying to sleep if you don't have a courteous staff (you won't) unless you're okay with being awake most of the night and catnapping all day, missing your one activity. No one listens to you or each other. I had to do the same paperwork over and over, sometimes overriding what previous paperwork had said. The only way to get something done for yourself is to ask every employee until you find the right one, which can take hours or days. If you need any medical care, have chronic problems such as migraines or anything related to eating, expect to receive no help even to the point of blacking out and vomiting constantly from pain. Using specific pronouns? Forget it. Trying to quit smoking? Lol. Religious trauma? Perfect, morning group is Christian. I came here so I wouldn't kill myself, not to be tortured. I left with even less will to live and absolutely no coping skills except "try fake tattoos" and "read the Bible." And then I left! I've now talked to 3 people about getting my medical paperwork and each person has sent me somewhere else. My insurance claim was denied because they refused to help me get it. Absolute joke. Tldr; it's disgusting, absolutely a health hazard kind of disgusting. Treatment is pathetic. The "help" they provide is for a very specific Christian who just needs to hop out of their lives for a few days. Think you'll need any medical treatment aside from Tylenol? Don't do it. The staff doesn't communicate, you're lucky if someone is nice to you and you can watch the employees' life drain from their eyes in real time. All around, I'm worse than when I left with nothing but a fat bill to show for it.

My son was admitted here and the staff was extremely unprofessional, unsympathetic and allowed for him to be harmed by other clients. When we’d call to check on him, the staff would either not answer, would transfer us two to 4 times or we’d get someone with a nasty disposition. Unfortunately this is not a place where you will have thorough and consistent communication with the appropriate staff people. We never spoke with the psychiatrist and they put him on meds with no explanation. Please if you are dealing with a teen who has challenges and want to be informed of their care, do not send your child here. I spoke with the chief nurse and he was pleasant however he wasn’t able to provide us with the information we needed- because he wasn’t able not on the residential floor.

I like to say this had help me and I feel like things are important to me and I want to tell you all. I haven't been able to get my medicine from my doctor in months. I not okay wanted out of there because of my pets. These people are not family they are just friends. I am looking for different places to move with my family and pets and my stuff. I felt like crap and they're not always a big help with me here. I feel like I'm getting mad at people who are around me at home. I feel about ready to lose my mind and do something I really don't want to do to make a another decision that I would regret because of my family pet's. What's the best thing that can help me without me getting into trouble with my decision of trying to prevent myself from making a another mistake? Of what happened to me and got mented because what did. How I'm I supposed to be honest with the people that teasing me with the stupid stuff I've done with the car crash into a shed? I felt guilty about it the first time. My animals are in this house as well and I love them always and forever

I will never understand how this institution thinks it’s okay to keep people in psychosis with violent tendencies with people who are just struggling with suicidal thoughts. It was an extremely dangerous environment where I constantly felt unsafe and alert. Is there no separation of severity? A male patient was just able to walk into my room six times, and for reference I am a 19 year old woman. The staff for the most part is nice, but the doctors are on some strange power trip. Dr. Ray was absolutely horrible and completely made up reasons about my intake. On top of making things up about the reasons I was there, he was very rude, even to my family. I wouldn’t even wish his service on my worst enemy. The only good thing I have to say is that the food is decent. Please if you have to send a loved one into an inpatient, do not send them here. There are many more reasons on why this place is horrible but I don’t want to divulge many more personal details. There are a lot of better options out there.
