When I first found Better Life, I was over the moon. Finally, someone who understands my child. And to have a school at the same facility? It was a dream come true. I have since found out that they are really no different than any other agency and school I have experienced. Which for us means that they were partially unable and partially unwilling to help us. What my child needed was consistency and routine, and instead received a revolving door of behavior techs and constant changes in his routine. Just as he would get comfortable, they would change things up again. His world was in a near constant state of chaos because of the constant change. Then they would wonder why his maladaptive behaviors were out of control. DUH! Every single one of those behaviors only happened in their facility. Almost none of them ever happen at home. They never once pondered the reason for it. I’m not even sure they cared enough to. Their mission statement for their schools is “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, then we teach the way they learn.” Those are some pretty words. Too bad they couldn’t back them up. Instead, they “dismissed” him. Honestly, it’s for the best. Now I can focus on making my child’s life better instead of going out of my way to try making the techs and the school happy. They aren’t what is important. It’s my kiddo who is. So. My advice is this. If you have a child with a severe disability and severe behavioral issues, be wary of this company. They may not be able to give your child what they NEED. And your child’s needs should always supersede what any supposed behavior “professional” may want.
