Maryland enacted its autism insurance mandate in 2012 (HB 1072), requiring insurers to cover ABA therapy for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The mandate was strengthened in subsequent years to remove age limits and increase coverage requirements. Maryland's proximity to Washington, D.C. gives families access to providers in both states. The Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, is one of the nation's premier centers for autism diagnosis and treatment. Maryland Medicaid covers ABA therapy for eligible individuals, and the state's Autism Waiver program provides additional community-based services.

Insurance Coverage for ABA in Maryland
